Members' Composite Recital at All Saints' parish church, Maidstone
Building on the success of our recital evening at Canterbury Cathedral last autumn, the October meeting will be a members’ recital day at All Saints’ church, Maidstone on Saturday 19th October at 2.30pm. This will provide an opportunity for members to offer more substantial repertoire than usual on our visits, and on a larger instrument, although performances at a more modest level are also encouraged, and for us all to share each other’s expertise and experience. The chamber organ (donated to the church by the late Brian Moore) will be available for those who prefer it to the main instrument.
Members who wish to perform are asked to notify Nicholas King on n.king112@btinternet.com by Wednesday 9th October of their intended piece, together with its playing time (up to 10 minutes), and the organ on which they wish to perform. A programme will then be drawn up. Please note that improvisations will not be permitted on this occasion. Limited practice sessions, of which details will then be notified, will be available on preceding evenings for those who require them, but (except for those coming from further afield) not on the day itself, because of a community café event which takes place until 2pm. Performers are invited to speak to their repertoire, perhaps explaining why they have chosen it and how it is significant to them, if they wish.
The usual excellent All Saints' tea will follow at between 3.30 and 4.00, dependent on the length of the recital. Tea bookings, from both performers and audience, should be notified in the usual way to Kevin Grafton, also by Wednesday 9th October, together with details of any allergens or other dietary requirements. A charge of £8 per head will apply, payable on the day. (As ever, the exact change will be much appreciated.)
