Competition Success!
KCOA member and incoming Journal editor Toby Huitson is once again a prizewinner in an organ composition competition launched by Blackburn Cathedral. The brief was to write a postlude of moderate difficulty for a Marian festival. Toby's piece is based on the plainchant 'Ave Maris Stella' and was placed runner-up. There were 21 entrants nationally and the judges were in agreement about the top two. The first performance will be given by Blackburn's resident organist John Hosking as the closing voluntary at the end of the 10:30 Cathedral Eucharist on Sunday 5th October, livestreamed on their YouTube channel and available afterwards as a video at: https://www.youtube.com/@BlackburnCathedralTV
The Director of Music at Blackburn is a former Assistant Organist in Canterbury, John Robinson. The Chief Operating Officer there is Ian White, a long-serving Lay Clerk in Canterbury.
